ColorQube: the solid ink printer

This printer is a Xerox multifunction traditional (print, faxing, photocopying, scanning) which makes it different is that it belongs to the line Xerox Color Printer series Qube 9200, known as solid ink printers or phase change.

To make prints using rods of solid ink color CMYK with a similar appearance to that of the crayons, the ink melts and feeds a print head operated by a piezoelectric crystal, the head is responsible for distributing the ink on a drum where to go greased paper, it is at this precise moment that the image is transferred to paper.
These new printers promise to reduce the cost of color printing in up to 62% compared to laser printers. Solid ink technology was acquired by Xerox in 2001 the company Teltronix in the amount of $ 925 million and was apparently a very good investment.

For now, these printers are aimed at universities and companies that already have a cost of $ 23,000, but as with laser printers, it will be a matter of time before we can have one at home.
